Setting up your workspace - BigQuery

This getting started guide focused on testing data from BigQuery. To setup workspace for testing data from a different data provider, check other setup guides: Google Analytics or Piano Analytics.

Getting started in Waaila

To get started quickly in Waaila you can

  1. Sign up into Waaila using Google account

  2. Create dataset from Template gallery to create your first set of tests

  3. Check your first results

Note:
To log in, you need a Google account. It is recommended to log in with the account where you have the access to your BigQuery data. However, you will have an option to add an additional account with the access later.

In the Template Gallery there are prepared publicly available tests separated by specific data provider and topic of the test. For example, you can select Sample BQ template to check your BigQuery data.

  1. Open selected template and click "Use tests".

  1. Select an existing depot (folder) where the dataset should be located or create a new one by selecting the option "Create a new depot"

  1. Select the option to "Create a new dataset" (tests can also be added from a template to an existing dataset in this step if you already have some existing datasets)

  1. Fill in the Google account email where you have access to BigQuery data that you want to test (when you connect for the first time, Google will ask you to approve accessing your data from Waaila)

  1. From listed data sources, select the Google Cloud Platform project that you want to use for testing, set a custom name to recognize the selected set of tests and confirm the configuration by clicking "Save"

Create a dataset without tests

Optionally, you can create a new dataset with no pre-specified tests and create there custom tests or add tests later.

  1. Go to an existing depot or create a new depot and select the button "Add dataset"

  1. Select a datasource provider - note: GA4 is selected by default, you need to click on More providers

  1. Select the Google account email where you have access to BigQuery data that you want to test

  1. From listed data sources, select the Google Cloud Platform project that you want to use for testing, set a custom name to recognize the selected set of tests and confirm the configuration by clicking "Save"

Create dataset from a prepared template

In My Templates you can can store prepared set of tests to use them easily on other properties. The process of connecting these templates to your data is the same as for templates in the public Template Gallery.

  1. Open selected template and click "Use tests"
