Setting up your workspace - Piano Analytics

This getting started guide focuses on testing data from Piano Analytics. To setup workspacefor testing data from a different data provider, check other setup guides: Google Analytics or BigQuery.

Getting started in Waaila

To get started quickly in Waaila you can

  1. Sign up into Waaila using some Google account

  2. Create dataset from Template gallery to create your first set of tests

  3. Check your first results

In the Template Gallery there are prepared publicly available tests separated by specific data provider and topic of the test. To filter by data provider use the dropdown on top right above the list of templates (note: Piano is still denoted in the public templates as AT Internet).

  1. Open selected template and click "Use tests". For example, you can select General Information and Checks to run daily as a general overview of your Piano data.

  1. Select an existing depot (folder) where the dataset should be located or create a new one by selecting the option "Create a new depot" - note: if you have no depot, this step is skipped automatically

  1. Select the option to "Create a new dataset" (tests can also be added from a template to an existing dataset in this step if you already have some existing datasets) - note: if you have no dataset for given data provider, this step is skipped automatically

  1. Set up the authentication

    • Keep the API Key authentication type selected
    • Select an existing account or choose to connect a new account
    • When connecting a new account using API Key, you need to enter a combination of an access key and a secret key from your Piano Analytics profile:
      • go to the Piano Analytics Explorer
      • click on user icon in upper right corner
      • select See profile
      • from the displayed tabs select API Keys
      • click on the button to create a new API key
      • insert appropriate name and description (e.g. "Waaila access") and select the button Create a new API key
      • copy the access key and secret key displayed and save them to save location
      • return to Waaila
      • under New Account input the access key into the Key field
      • input the secret key into the Value field

  1. Select specific data

    • This parameter can be changed by the configuration inside individual tests
    • Enter one or more dataset codes (id of the space) that the connected account has access to
    • The code can be found at Piano Analytics Data Query in generated links as the content of the space parameter
      • click on the "Send to ..." button
      • select "Copy the API body (POST)"
      • search out the "space" parameter in the JSON query
  2. Set a custom name or leave the existing name

  3. Confirm the configuration by clicking "Save"

Create a dataset without tests

Optionally, you can create a new dataset with no pre-specified tests and create there custom tests or add tests later.

  1. Go to an existing depot or create a new depot and select the button "Add dataset"

  1. Select a datasource provider - note: GA4 is selected by default, you need to click on More providers

Create dataset from a prepared template

In My Templates you can can store prepared set of tests to use them easily on other properties. The process of connecting these templates to your data is the same as for templates in the public Template Gallery.

  1. Open selected template and click "Use tests".
